There are many successful YouTube gamers and Twitch partners that are making a living livestreaming their pc game play over the Internet. While on the surface, it looks easy to start a gaming channel, there is actually a lot of work that goes into having a successful channel.

If you are reading this and are one of those who is seriously wanting to make this a full time business, then here are some tips to get you started.

Tips For Streaming as a Professional Gamer

Treat your channel like a true business. Just because you are hosting a gaming channel or are livestreaming on Twitch and you don’t work out of an office building, doesn’t make this any less of a business. If family and friends don’t understand what your business model is, don’t sweat it. Just keep working hard.

Invest in good equipment from the beginning. Don’t throw money into an old rig just because you want to get started quick. If you are limited on funds, you need to spend your money smart. If you tie your money up in sub-par equipment, your channel is going to be hobbled from the beginning. Plan out the equipment that you need to start streaming as a professional gamer and find a way to acquire a little at a time while you study your competition.

Be authentic. Don’t just copy someone else’s channel design or gaming model. Find your own angle and promote it. If you are being authentic, you will gain organic followers. If you are forcing a fake personality, it is going to show and you will be trolled without mercy.

Take control of your chat room. If you allow chat to get out of control with trolls and the like, you will loose followers. If you can offer an active and fun chat room, you will grow your tribe much faster. People want to be part of an active and growing tribe. A good way to control chat is with paid subscriptions but until you have the ability to offer paid subscriptions, there are many apps and mods you can use to control your chat rooms.

Keep a regular stream schedule. If people have to guess when you are going to stream, they won’t follow you. They don’t want to have to work that hard.

Seek out other broadcasters that you can collaborate with. This is a great place to gain new followers and you can always share followers.

Remember to play the games you like. Don’t choose a game just because it is currently ranking high in searches. If you are playing a game you like, it will show.
